About Me
WHY THIS WORK MATTERS
A single Black physician in a county increases the lifespan of every Black resident in it.
What happens to those communities if we burn out and leave? When no one teaches us that we were allowed to ask for something different?
The Blk Doctor exists because that question deserves an answer. And because the physicians who stay, who build sustainable careers and fight for their patients from a place of stability rather than depletion, change everything.

I AM your PHYSICIAN COACH.
WHO I AM
I am Dr. Sheneka Horne. Pediatrician. Physician coach. Negotiation strategist. Founder of The Blk Doctor and host of The Blk Doctor Collective Podcast.
I help physicians build careers that actually work for their lives. Not the career medicine told you to want. The one you actually want.
That means knowing what to ask for, how to ask for it, and understanding that the negotiation starts long before anyone puts an offer in front of you.
MY STORY
I arrived at the end of fellowship with a pediatric residency, a global health fellowship, six figures of student loan debt, and no job.
Not because I failed. Because I looked at what was waiting for me and decided I could not sign up for it. The 24 hour shifts. The contracts that locked you in for two to three years with no way out. The exhaustion I watched my attendings carry like it was just part of the job.
I made a decision that felt terrifying at the time. I did not job search. I took a break and figured out what I actually wanted my life to look like first.
Then I negotiated my way into it.
Since that decision I have never worked full time. I have never done a night shift or a 24 hour call. I take three to six months off every year. I travel A LOT. I practice medicine on my own terms. And I feel better than I ever did in training.
That is not luck. That is strategy. And it is what I teach.
WHAT I DO
I work with physicians, particularly Black women physicians, who are burned out, underpaid, over-committed, or sitting on an offer or contract they do not know how to negotiate.
Through one on one coaching, group programs, and speaking, I teach physicians how to:
Identify what they actually need to feel good about their work and their lives.
Build a job search or renegotiation strategy before they are under pressure.
Negotiate contracts, salaries, schedules, and roles without fear of losing the offer.
Create careers in medicine that are sustainable. Not just survivable.
My flagship coaching program is The Any Day Negotiator. It exists because negotiation is not a moment that happens at the end of a job search. It is a process that starts the day you decide what your life is supposed to look like.

For Speaking and Collaboration Inquiries
Your audience is already having this conversation. About burnout. About contracts. About whether medicine is still worth it. About what it would take to actually feel good about the career they worked this hard to build.
I bring that conversation into the room.
I speak to residency and fellowship programs, physician communities, coaching retreats, and podcast audiences on negotiation, career agency, and what it actually looks like to build a sustainable life in medicine. The talk looks different depending on the room.
The message is the same: physicians were never taught they were allowed to ask for something different. That changes today.
